World number 35 Lorenzo Sonego has struggled all season long, with a 2-4 record on clay so far this swing suggesting an upset could be on the cards here. World number 94 Peter Gojowczyk was the winner of their only previous meeting, in straight sets at the 2018 Italian Open, and the 32-year-old produced a stunning run to the round of 16 at the US Open last season to prove himself capable at this level. 27-year-old Sonego is an excellent all-courter with two ATP titles to his name on the surface and he remains the favourite to come through all the same. Backing the Italian to win at least two sets as the likelier of two capable victors looks the sensible concession, though.
