27-year-old Pedro Cachin is back up to a career-high ATP world ranking of 57th this week after a solid run to the round of 16 at the Gijon Open, where he took the first set before defeat to Andy Murray. The Argentine looks ready to make the full transition from Challenger to main tour tennis now after a recent run to the third round of the US Open and a three-set victory over Adrian Mannarino on Tuesday sees him one win away from a first quarter-final at this level. World number 95 Taro Daniel is now pushover, though, and he looked sturdy in a straight-sets win over Pedro Martinez. Cachin’s recent form suggests siding with the Argentine is the sensible move here but Daniel can be far better than his ranking suggests on his day. With three sets fairly likely, back Cachin to earn at least one of them and leave the victor up to chance.
