THE PREDICTION
World number four Paula Badosa came back from a set down to beat an impressive Lesia Tsurenko on Tuesday but the Spaniard knows she needs to improve quickly. The 24-year-old was born in New York but so far she has struggled at the US Open with two first-round exits and a loss in the second round last season. Badosa has reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon, twice, and the Australian Open as well as the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros last year but perhaps her dislike for the different balls at Flushing Meadows, which plenty of players are complaining about once again this year, are to blame. There is certainly a way in to the third round here for world number 54 Petra Martic, who beat Varvara Gracheva in straight sets on Tuesday, but the Croat has been a little below par since winning her second WTA title last month at the Palermo Open.
