World number four Paula Badosa was shocked in the first round of the Eastbourne International by Jodie Burrage in her only grass match of the year. The 24-year-old has struggled, so far, to live up to her incredible rise last season which culminated in a first Masters title won at Indian Wells and reaching the semi-finals of the WTA on her debut but she is too good a player to stay below-par for long. There is, however, the tiniest scent of an upset here against Louisa Chrico, who qualified this week to reach the main draw at a Grand Slam for the first time since 2017. The American has won just one match at this level at Roland-Garros in 2016 but it would not be a surprise to see her snatch a set after strong work on the ITF circuit in recent months. The suitably cautious pick is backing Badosa in straight sets but, with that likely not worth doing, a one-off on 26-year-old Chirico to take a set could be the shrewd move.
