World number 23 Pablo Carreno Busta conceded just three games to Luca Nardi on Tuesday, backing up some strong form from the Bastad Open where he lost in the semi-finals to eventual champion Francisco Cerundolo. The defending champion is a superb all-courter but still at his best on the clay, with his most recent of six ATP titles coming here at ATP 500 level last season alongside the Andalucia Open. A first meeting with 24-year-old Alex Molcan still looks a tough prospect, though, with the Slovakian enjoying a steady rise up the rankings over the last 12 months. The world number 48 beat Marko Topo in straight sets on Monday and he has already reached a tour final on clay this season, finishing runner-up to Cam Norrie at the Lyon Open back in May. PCB can occasionally be a little suspect in the early rounds of tournaments but he should be able to go above and beyond this week as defending champion. Back the Spaniard to edge this outright with three sets more likely than two.
