World number 16 Denis Shapovalov is a tough player to pin down right now. The 23-year-old beat an admittedly injury-hampered Rafael Nadal in the round of 16 at the Italian Open last month in a campaign that also saw wins over Nikoloz Basilashvili and Lorenzo Sonego but back-to-back first round defeats in Geneva and at Roland-Garros brought a sorry end to his clay swing. It will be fascinating to see how he fares on the grass swing after a stunning run to the semi-finals of Wimbledon last season was ended by eventual champion Novak Djokovic. World number 61 Oscar Otte also performed well at Wimbledon, taking Andy Murray to a five-set thriller in the second round at SW19 before defeat. The German has steadily risen up the rankings ever since and he could be an outside threat at home in Stuttgart if he passes this initial challenge.
This is a proper coupon-buster any which way you look at it and well worth leaving out of an accumulator. Given Shapovalov’s current form, backing Otte to win at least a set as home favourite could well be the shrewd move.
