THE PREDICTION

World number five Ons Jabeur will play her first match on tour since finishing runner-up to Elena Rybakina at Wimbledon last month, losing to the Kazakh from a set up in her first Grand Slam final. The 27-year-old has been rapidly improving over the last two seasons, with wins at the Madrid Masters and Berlin Open taking her WTA title tally to three, and she will be hungry for more in this long run-up to the US Open next month. World number 27 Madison Keys is playing her first match since late June after an injury saw her pull out of Wimbledon but she looked solid in a straight-sets victory over Shuai Zhang in the first round. The former world number seven will be well-backed as a home favourite on what is her favoured surface and there could be a mini-upset on the cards here given Jabeur’s long stretch since playing an emotionally draining tournament. The shrewd move could be backing Keys to win at least a set here and leaving the winner up to chance.
