World number five Ons Jabeur is going under the radar a little at the US Open, perhaps because her best results have come on the natural surfaces of grass and clay over the past two seasons. The Tunisian claimed ger first WTA title on grass at the Birmingham Classic last season and bettered that this year with a first Masters title claimed on clay at the Madrid Open and her third title coming on grass at the Berlin Open. Her best achievement to date is ultimately a sad one, though, as she finished runner-up to Elena Rybakina at Wimbledon without even the huge amount of ranking points to soften the blow. She has the unwanted task of playing a young American underdog here in Elizabeth Mandlik, daughter of four-time Grand Slam champion Hana Mandlikova, after the 21-year-old came back from a set down to beat Tamara Zidansek on Monday. Mandlik is a dangerous rising star who took Paula Badosa to three sets at the Silicon Valley Classic earlier this month and backing Jabeur to win outright is not as cautious as it may appear in these conditions.
