THE PREDICTION
World number 124 Olga Danilovic is enjoying one of the best weeks of her young career so far after already winning the Lausanne Women’s Doubles title alongside Kristina Mladenovic. The 21-year-old won her first WTA title as a teenager at the Moscow River Cup in 2018, on clay, but after a few years in the wilderness she appears to be returning to her previous level. A straight-sets victory over Anastasia Potapova is a great result on this surface but 31-year-old Petra Martic will be her toughest challenge yet. Former world number 14 Martic has ousted the likes of Belinda Bencic and Caroline Garcia this week, both in-form recent title-winners themselves, and her recent run to the round of 16 at Wimbledon is a level somewhere above Danilovic’s right now. However, Danilovic won their only previous meeting in three sets in the first round of last season’s Australian Open to make this a tougher call. Martic should be in good enough form to lift a second career title but taking her to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable champions would be the sensible move.
