25-year-old Jelena Ostapenko defended her Eastbourne International title valiantly until the final on Saturday, where an in-form Petra Kvitova proved too strong. The Latvian won the 2017 Roland-Garros title at barely 20 years old and she reached the semi-finals here a year later with a clear ability on the grass that makes her a serious title-contender this fortnight. Particularly so as Ostapenko is the last player to have beaten world number one Iga Swiatek, defeating the imperious Pole on her way to a fifth WTA title at the Dubai Tennis Championships back in February. World number 85 Oceane Dodin enjoyed a run to the semi-finals of the Strasbourg Open back in May but since defeat to eventual champion Angelique Kerber she has lost three matches on the spin. Ostapenko may take some getting going after defeat in Eastbourne but she can be confidently backed to avoid an upset here with an outright pick.
