This should be a fascinating battle between world number one Novak Djokovic and Serbia’s best hope at his long-term successor Miomir Kecmanovic. 34-year-old Djokovic won his first match on clay this season with a tough comeback in three sets over Laslo Djere and he will not thank tournament organisers for the quick turnaround as he takes on Kecmanovic early on Thursday. Kecmanovic is yet to drop a set this week with solid victories over Richard Gasquet and John Millman and the 22-year-old has rediscovered his best level this season with some stunning results over the likes of Matteo Berrettini and Felix Auger-Aliassime. Djokovic’s three-set slog against Djere is the kind of match practice he needs to return to his best but Kecmanovic is a seriously tough next draw to face so soon after. Back the youngster to win at least a set as the likelier winner here in what should be the biggest win of his career.
