THE PREDICTION
World number one Novak Djokovic came back from a set down to beat in-form Miomir Kecmanovic on Thursday in a watershed moment for his return to the tour. The 34-year-old barely made it past Laslo Djere in three tight sets on Wednesday but with his body holding up and one of the favourites for the title here in Belgrade now defeated the Serb looks the solid favourite to win his first title since last season’s Paris Masters. World number 26 Karen Khachanov beat Djokovic in the final of that very tournament back in 2018 to win his only Masters title to date but he trails Djokovic 5-1 in their head-to-head record, most recently losing in straight sets at the Dubai Tennis Championships back in February. Three sets seems likely but all six of their meetings have fallen in straight sets and that does make taking Djokovic to win in two tempting. Backing the Serb to win outright remains the sensible call.
