THE PREDICTION
World number one Novak Djokovic made short work of beating Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets on Monday, conceding just four games to the Japanese in a pumped performance. The 35-year-old is the defending champion at Roland-Garros after coming back from two sets down to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in last season’s final, following a four-set victory over Rafael Nadal. Djokovic is chasing down Nadal after the Spaniard broke the Men’s Singles Grand Slam record at the Australian Open with his 21st major title.
This could potentially be an uncomfortable second round match for the Serb as he takes on Slovakia’s Alex Molcan for a second time, with his ex-coach Marian Vajda now coaching the 24-year-old. Molcan beat Federico Coria in four sets on Tuesday, backing up an excellent run to second tour final last week at the Lyon Open where he lost in three sets to Cam Norrie. Molcan’s first tour final came at the Belgrade 2 Open last summer, where he lost in straight sets to Djokovic after a breakthrough campaign on tour. Whatever happens here the Slovak will break his career-high ATP world ranking but this may not as be as straightforward as their last meeting. The sensible call is taking Djokovic to win outright.
