THE PREDICTION

27-year-old Nicolas Jarry made it six wins on the spin on clay with an excellent four-set victory over Tommy Paul on Thursday, coming back from a set down to upset the world number 17. Jarry can break the top 30 on tour for the first time with victory here after enjoying his best season on tour so far with two ATP titles won on his favoured clay, one on home soil at the Chile Open and one last week in Geneva. World number 75 Marcos Giron went into his second round match as the underdog but a straight-sets victory over Jiri Lehecka makes him dangerous here. The 29-year-old has matched his career-best run at a Grand Slam after also making the third round here in 2021 and this is a huge opportunity for both men to make the round of 16 at a major for the first time. Jarry has one of the best records on clay on tour this season and recent wins over Alexander Zverev, Casper Ruud and Grigor Dimitrov suggest he can be backed to edge through here but four or even five sets may be required.
