THE PREDICTION
25-year-old Nadia Podoroska set a career-high WTA world ranking of 36th this time last year after a huge 12 months on tour that started with a run from nowhere to the semi-finals of Roland-Garros the year before. A huge injury setback later last year has seen the Argentine pegged back to outside of the top 200 but she grabbed her first tour victory since August 2021 on Monday, beating Alexandra Cadantu-Ignatik in comprehensive fashion, and she should be much the better for it moving forwards. 27-year-old Laura Pigossi will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 107th no matter the outcome here after she beat Varvara Gracheva on Monday. The Brazilian reached a maiden tour final at the Bogota Open earlier this season before defeat to Tatjana Maria and she has been capable on clay all season. A first meeting between the two should be an entertaining one but taking Podoroska to win at least a set, a match she should be taking comfortably when fully fit, seems wise here.
