World number 13 Cam Norrie contracted covid-19 on the eve of the Japan Open to see his slim hopes of making the ATP Finals for a full debut fizzle out. The 27-year-old has since won two and lost two of his matches as he struggles with the loss in momentum and potential unseen after-effects from the virus but he can at least put all his efforts into this season-ending campaign. World number 29 Miomir Kecmanovic has enjoyed his best season on tour too, with runs to successive quarter-finals at the Sunshine Double and a first second week reached at a Grand Slam all big benchmarks to build on next year. The 23-year-old has lost to the eventual finalist in each of his last three tournaments for some excellent form coming into Paris but Norrie was the winner of their only previous meeting almost exactly two years ago at the St. Petersburg Open.
