World number eight Felix Auger-Aliassime can set a career-high ATP world ranking of around sixth if he at least matches Andrey Rublev’s run at the Paris Masters and he is just two matches away from making his ATP Finals debut in Turin with two remaining qualification places up for grabs. The 22-year-old has suddenly found the kind of consistency that was missing from his otherwise oven-ready game to win three ATP titles in successive weeks at the Firenze Open, European Open and Swiss Indoors – taking a 13-match winning streak into the Paris Masters with high hopes as a former doubles champion here in 2020. This is no gimme, though, against in-form world number 74 Mikael Ymer as the Swede has momentum behind him from qualifiers through to an excellent three-set victory over Alexander Bublik on Monday. Both players will have their backers in this second meeting on tour but Auger-Aliassime could well be the darling of this tournament as a French speaker and if the Paris crowd come to his cause he looks as good a tip for the title as anybody. The Canadian beat Ymer in four sets at Wimbledon last season but both players have improved since. Back Auger-Aliassime to win outright here for a suitably cautious opening move.
