18-year-old Nastasja Schunk set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 154th this week after qualifying well to make her Wimbledon debut. The German prospect made her main draw debut at a Grand Slam last month at Roland-Garros and she almost caused a huge upset in a three-set defeat to former champion Simona Halep. World number 127 Mihaela Buzarnescu is at the other end of her career at 34 years old but the former world number 20 will be a tough obstacle for Schunk to get past on Tuesday in their first meeting. Buzarnescu has lost five if her last six first round matches at majors and after Schunk’s display at Roland-Garros backing the German to win outright looks a reasonable risk here.
