World number 63 Mayar Sherif beat number 65 Marta Kostyuk in their first encounter at Roland-Garros back in June but the Ukrainian should have a decent chance at levelling things on a hardcourt. 20-year-old Kostyuk reached the semi-finals of the Granby Open last week before pulling out of the tournament, presumably for caution’s sake ahead of the US Open with a recent injury seeing her miss a few weeks after Wimbledon. 26-year-old Sherif was forced to pull out of Roland-Garros herself after securing an excellent result over Kostyuk and the Egyptian has failed to win a match on tour since, with three defeats this month suggesting Kostyuk can be backed to win outright.
