26-year-old Mayar Sherif will be a handful here after the Egyptian won an ITF title last week to set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 49th, breaking the top 50 for the first time. World number 59 Marta Kostyuk is riding a three-match losing streak from the second round of the Madrid Open but she has shown flashes of her clear future potential this season, most notably in taking Paula Badosa all the way in a thrilling three-set defeat at the Australian Open. The 19-year-old reached the round of 16 here last season but there are, understandably, plenty of outside factors affecting the Ukrainian this season. A few wins under her belt would do her the world of good but this looks a really tough first meeting with in-form Sherif. Take the Egyptian to win at least a set here and leave the winner up to chance.
