THE PREDICTION
World number 23 Marin Cilic conceded just three games to the returning Attila Balazs on Monday for an energy-conserving opener. The former world number three won the 2014 US Open and he has finished runner-up at the Australian Open and Wimbledon but clay is markedly his least effective surface with two quarter-finals made here in 2017 and 2018. World number 57 Marton Fucsovics is probably the more complete player on this surface overall and he too made short work of his opening opponent, defeating Geoffrey Blancaneaux in three. The 30-year-old reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon last season to set his best showing at a Grand Slam but he has struggled to match that intensity for the large part since. Fucsovics trails Cilic 2-0 in their head-to-head but this first meeting could be more of a level playing field. Back Cilic to win and both player to take a set here, or just the Croat to win inside an accumulator.
