28-year-old Martina Trevisan is through to the second week of Roland-Garros for a second time after producing a shock run to the quarter-finals here back in 2020 before defeat ti eventual champion Iga Swiatek. The Italian is riding an eight-match winning streak from a maiden WTA title at last week’s rabat Open in Morocco and she is yet to drop a set in Paris after impressive results over Harriet Dart, Magda Linette and Daria Savile.
ALIAKSANDRA SASNOVICH
World number 47 Aliaksandra Sasnovich has gone under the radar so far at Roland-Garros but she backed-up a comeback victory over Emma Raducanu in the second round with an exceptional straight-sets result over in-form Angelique Kerber in the third. The former world number 30 looks on course to break her career-high WTA world ranking this season on her current trajectory after coming into form at last season’s Indian Wells.
THE PREDICTION
This is a huge opportunity for both players to make the last eight at Roland-Garros, for a second time in Treivsan’s case and a first time ever for Sasnovich. The Belarussian has the better results against two Grand Slam champions behind her already and she looks the more explosive in this first meeting with Trevisan but the Italian has the experience here in Paris to make this a real head-scratcher. Backing Sasnovich to win at least a set as the just-about likelier victor seems sensible here.
