World number 17 Marin Cilic looks a new man this summer after back-to-back semi-finals reached at Roland-Garros and Queen’s. The 2014 US Open champion is one of the better players on grass on the ATP tour and his recent form suggests he could produce a very deep run indeed at Wimbledon as a former runner-up here to Roger Federer in 2017. Former world number three Cilic is a two-time Queen’s champion with three titles on grass amongst his 20 career accolades and the Croat’s experience alone tends to get him through the first few rounds before he sinks or, like in Paris, swims. World number 53 Mackenzie McDonald is a gutsy player who often enjoys the longer five-set format at Grand Slams, with a four-set defeat to Cilic in their only previous meeting at the 2019 Australian Open proof of that. The 27-year-old broke the top 50 for a first time this season and he has been competitive so far on grass this month. Backing Cilic to win outright looks to be the sensible call here.
