THE PREDICTION
Both world number 11 Cam Norrie and number 23 Marin Cilic enjoyed comfortable opening wins against Italian wildcards in the first round but this could be a lengthy battle between the two. Former world number three Cilic took Alexander Zverev to three sets at last week’s Madrid Open before defeat but the 33-year-old has not won back-to-ack matches since reaching the round of 16 at the Australian Open back in January – a run of seven tournaments. 26-year-old Norrie was critical of his game after beating Luca Nardi in straight sets on Tuesday and those high standards are keeping him hovering just outside the top 10 far longer than many expected. The Brit took Carlos Alcaraz to three sets before defeat at the Madrid Open last week, as close as any has come to beating the mercurial Spaniard, and he beat Cilic on clay in their only previous meeting in the semi-finals of last year’s Estoril Open.
