17-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova reached the first tour final of her young, promising career with a comeback victory over Nadia Podoroska on Saturday. The teenager will break the top 100 on tour for a first time no matter the outcome of this match but she certainly feels ready, remarkably, to win her maiden WTA title after a hugely impressive breakthrough this season – most notably reaching the round of 16 at the Miami Open on her Masters debut. The Czech met world number 67 Magda Linette in only her second tournament, losing to the Pole in two tight sets at the Cleveland Championships last August, but this should come even closer one year on. 30-year-old Linette has impressed this summer, almost shocking Karolina Pliskova in the first round of the US Open last time out, and she is yet to drop a set this week after Katie Swan was forced to retire from their semi-final on Saturday. Given her record against Fruhvirtova so far, and that the Czech may feel some nerves in a first final, back Linette to win at least a set here and leave the victor up to chance.
