World number 59 Madison Brengle and number 102 Lauren Davis have met many times over the years at Challenger and ITF level but Davis was the winner of their only tour-level meeting at last season’s Charleston Open on clay. The 26-year-old has the better results on grass this month too with victories over Kaja Juvan, Elena-Gabriela Ruse and a tight defeat to Camila Giorgi suggesting she has the edge in this close first round clash. Brengle is a tough player to get past easily, though, and the likelihood that this match sees three sets makes taking Davis to win at least one of them the suitably cautious move.
