World number 16 Matteo Berrettini looks to be back in some solid shape after a choppy few tournaments over the last few months. The 26-year-old looked to be the favourite to win Wimbledon this summer off the back of his stellar form on grass but contracting covid-19 on the eve of the tournament was a particularly cruel blow that has understandably taken some getting over both physically and mentally. World number 74 Mackenzie McDonald has been in impressive form of his own ever since winning the Men’s Doubles title at the Japan Open, his first title on tour. The 27-year-old made the quarter-finals in Florence last week and now the semi-finals here after coming back from a set down to beat Zhizhen Zhang, although his stand-out result was a straight-sets victory over third seed Roberto Bautista Agut. McDonald may have missed his chance to face a weaker Berrettini, though, and the Italian will have the full backing of a partisan crowd in Napoli to see him through the trickier moments. Back Berrettini to win outright cautiously or risk the straight sets.
