Former world number 10 Lucas Pouille has spent much of his time on the Challenger circuit since returning from his latest huge injury lay-off but the Frenchman recently made the quarter-finals of the Open 13 in Marseille before a three-set defeat to eventual champion Andrey Rublev. The 28-year-old won the 2017 Budapest Open on clay in his best season on tour but recent form on the surface suggests this match is Karen Khachanov’s to lose. Former world number eight Khachanov is currently ranked 26th after a few seasons of frustrating inconsistency. The 25-year-old is excellent across surfaces and he recently took a set from Novak Djokovic before losing in the semi-finals at the Serbia Open. Khachanov leads Pouille 3-2 in their head-to-head record after a three-set win at last season’s Mallorca Championships on grass and he was the winner in straight sets in their only meeting on clay at Roland-Garros in 2018.
