World number 32 Lorenzo Sonego beat Benoit Paire in straight sets on Monday for a first result on grass this season. The 27-year-old has been struggling with his form throughout 2022 but a run to the third round of Roland-Garros promised an upturn as he exited with his head held high in five sets to eventual runner-up Casper Ruud. World number 32 Jan-Lennard Struff overcame Marcos Giron in three sets in his first match back since injury at the Miami Open back in March. The 32-year-old is a popular home favourite here who should be backed to the hilt by the Stuttgart Open crowd but this first meeting with Sonego looks tricky. Sonego won his first ATP title on grass at the Antalya Open back in 2019 and he enjoyed some decent results on the surface last season too. Back the Italian to edge this outright.
