THE PREDICTION
World number 10 and defending champion Hubert Hurkacz is yet to drop a set this week after assured performances against Dominic Thiem and Arthur Rinderknech. The 25-year-old won the Halle Open back in June and more recently finished runner-up to Pablo Carreno Busta at the Canada Masters but it has been, oddly, a rather frustrating season overall and especially at Grand Slams. World number 65 Lorenzo Sonego has endured many more troughs than peaks this year, though, to bring a poor 18-24 record into the Moselle Open. However, there have been encouraging signs that the Italian is rediscovering his love for the game in Metz as he too is through to the semi-finals without dropping a set against three tough, different challenges in Aslan Karatsev, Gilles Simon and Sebastian Korda.
Sonego leads Hurkacz 2-1 in their head-to-head record but the pair have not played in almost two years. Hurkacz has significantly improved since their last match and he can be backed to reach the final with an outright victory, although three sets are possible with Sonego an excellent competitor on indoor hardcourts.
