20-year-old Lorenzo Musetti halved his ranking this week, moving 31 places up to a career-high world number 31, after a maiden ATP title was won in a thrilling three-set result over Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday. The Italian had displayed this kind of potential back in 2020 but after a season of two very distinct halves last year he will feel he has more than made up for poor form with an ATP 500 title. Musetti coped well enough with the often-pitfall of winning a title then playing a first round match within a few days, overcoming Aljaz Bedene in three sets on Tuesday. He will face fellow Italian and friend off the court Marco Cecchinato after the 29-year-old beat Mili Poljicak in three set son Monday. The pair shared a five-set thriller in the third round of Roland-Garros last season, edging the way of Musetti, but this second meeting should fall a little easier in the youngster’s direction. Back Musetti to win outright here, although straight sets should do it.
