THE PREDICTION
20-year-old Lorenzo Musetti set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 24th this week after reaching the semi-finals of the Firenze Open last week. The Italian will be desperate to do even better in Napoli after losing in straight sets to eventual champion Felix Auger-Aliassime in Florence but he faces something of a bogey player here in world number 78 Laslo Djere. 27-year-old Djere has beaten Musetti five times in their six meetings, a remarkable amount of matches considering Musetti’s age, although it is notable that the Italian claimed one of their two hardcourt encounters and that both of their matches on this surface went to three sets. Musetti has markedly improved in the second half of this season and home advantage should aid him here but Djere has already warmed up on Thursday after completing his delayed first round match this morning. Back Musetti to win at least a set here and leave the victor up to chance.
