World number 24 Lorenzo Musetti passed a significant test on Thursday when he beat Laslo Djere for only the second time in seven meetings, taking out the Serb in straight sets. The 20-year-old burst back into form on clay this summer to beat Carlos Alcaraz to the Hamburg Open title and he looks safely back to his best on tour now after 12 months in the wilderness. 26-year-old Daniel Elahi Galan could prove a tough hurdle here, though, as the Colombian continues to enjoy the form of his career. Galan will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 67th no matter the outcome here after reaching the quarter-finals without dropping a set and his career-best victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas at the US Open is still fresh in the memory. Musetti should be reaching the semi-finals here but a first meeting with a confident Galan suggests the outright win is a sensible call instead of straight sets.
