THE PREDICTION

World number four Casper Ruud snapped a three-match losing streak at just the right time ahead of the fast-approaching ATP Finals, beating in-form Richard Gasquet in straight sets. The 23-year-old finished runner-up to Rafael Nadal at Roland-Garros this summer in his first Grand Slam final and then repeated the feat against Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open to prove plenty of doubters wrong about his abilities away from his favoured clay. Another youngster who has proved similarly versatile is 20-year-old Lorenzo Musetti, who stunned Marin Cilic in the first round on Monday before an assured victory over Nikoloz Basilashvili. The Italian has reached a quarter-final, two semi-finals and a final on hardcourts since the US Open and claimed his second ATP title of the season at the Firenze Open, beating compatriot Mateo Berrettini to the punch. Current form would favour Musetti in this first meeting between the two but Ruud should be much better for claiming a win. Back the Norwegian to earn at least a set here and leave the victor up to chance.
