World number 33 Lin Zhu came back from a set down to beat Caroline Dolehide on Wednesday, building on a strong opener over Lucia Bronzetti. The 29-year-old found the form of her career this time last year with a run to the round of 16 at the Australian Open and a maiden WTA title claimed in Thailand soon after, with last week’s excellent upset over Danielle Collins in Brisbane suggesting she is in one of her better moments since. World number 195 Daria Saville could be about to rediscover her previous best too after a confidence boosting straight-sets upset of former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin. The 29-year-old has won back-to-back matches on tour for the first time since making the semi-finals of the Hamburg Open last July and doing so with home support behind her could be the start of a restorative 2024 after struggling to return from injury. Lin Zhu should be able to edge a tight match on Thursday but back the Chinese to earn at least a set with Saville a tough player to break down when confident.
