THE PREDICTION
World number 18 Leylah Fernandez came back from a set down to beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Monday for just a second win on clay this season. The Canadian successfully defended her Monterrey Open title back in February but she has yet to really explode on this surface and world number 23 Daria Kasatkina is a really tough draw so early on in Rome. The 24-year-old beat a tough foe on clay in Tamara Zidansek on Monday and she stunned Maria Sakkari in three sets at last week’s Madrid Open. Kasatkina has beaten some top opponents on clay and she is certainly the more comfortable on this surface with plenty more experience. Backing her to win at least a set would be sensible in this first meeting but realistically the Russian should be winning this outright.
