THE PREDICTION
World number 20 Leylah Fernandez put in a dominant display for Canada in the recent Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers, taking out both her Latvian opponents for just three games conceded on hardcourts. The 19-year-old took the first set against Magda Linette in her first clay-court match of the season at the Charleston Open earlier this month before the Pole fought back to win and she has yet to really excel on the surface despite having the tools required. World number 23 Daria Kasatkina won her first WTA title on clay as a teenager back in 2017 and she was a Roland-Garros junior champion before that, with this her favourite surface. The 24-year-old beat an excellent clay-courter in Coco Gauff last week in Stuttgart before losing to an inspired Ons Jabeur in the round of 16 and she looks the slight favourite to win this first meeting with Fernandez, unless the Canadian finds her determined best on court. Back Kasatkina to win at least a set as the likelier winner or outright for a considerable risk.
