29-year-old Lin Zhu’s hard work looks to have paid off after the Chinese player began picking up momentum late last season and she will break the top 50 on tour for the first time no matter the outcome of this maiden tour final. Lin stunned Maria Sakkari in three sets to reach the round of 16 at the Australian Open last month and she came perilously close to making the last eight before Victoria Azarenka came back to beat her. Former world number 23 Lesia Tsurenko was in control against Bianca Andreescu before the top seed succumbed to an injury in the second set but the Ukrainian deserves her place in this final after beating the likes of Anna Kalinskaya in Hua Hin. Tsurenko beat Lin in three sets this time four years ago at the Dubai Tennis Championships but the Chinese player is in the form of her life this time around. Back Zhu Lin to earn at least a set as the likelier of two very capable champions or risk the outright win.
