THE PREDICTION
This is a huge opportunity for one of world number 97 Jule Niemeier or number 101 Lesia Tsuerenko to reach the round of 16 at Wimbledon for a first time. 22-year-old Niemeier reaching the second week at SW19 would be especially impressive on her debut here having only just made her Grand Slam debut at Roland-Garros last month but she provided one of the biggest shocks so far this week with a straight-sets victory over second seed Anett Kontaveit. The German has taken two top grass-courters to three sets in recent weeks in Belinda Bencic and Daria Kasatkina but 33-year-old Tsurenko has been enjoying something of a renaissance on grass this month, with a run to the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne International halted by injury, and she was impressive in a three-set victory over fellow Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina on Wednesday.
This first meeting could go either way between youth and experience and perhaps three sets is a suitable alternative to picking a winner. Leaving this head-scratcher out of an accumulator would be wise.
