THE PREDICTION
World number eight Andrey Rublev got off to a shaky start on Thursday after missing a month of tennis due to the ban of Russian and Belarussian players at Wimbledon. The 24-year-old needed a deciding tiebreaker to oust Federico Coria but whilst he can be forgiven for a rusty return to the tour he will need to amp that level up against out-and-out clay specialist Laslo Djere here. 27-year-old Djere is yet to drop a set this week in Bastad, taking out Lorenzo Musetti and Marc-Andrea Huesler with a total of nine breaks of serve so far. The Serb’s two ATP titles came on clay, although a fully-fit Rublev is one of the better players on this surface on tour in his own right. This is a tough call considering the Russian’s lack of recent matches, and Djere’s own momentum, but Rublev should come out better than his opening match. Take Djere to win at least a set in a match likely to need a decider and leave the winner up to chance.
