World number 11 Andrey Rublev found some searing form early this season to add another three titles from Marseille, Dubai and Belgrade to his career total of 11. However, the Russian fell out of the top 10 this week after early exits in Montreal and Cincinnati, the latter at which he was defending a large amount of ranking points from a runners-up finish last season. Rublev has reached the quarter-finals in New York on two occasions, 2017 and 2020, with his best Grand Slam record of 13-6 coming here.
THE PREDICTION
World number 64 Laslo Djere reached a first hardcourt ATP final last week at the Winston-Salem Open, where he finished runner-up to Adrian Mannarino. The Serb’s run included victories over the likes of David Goffin and Richard Gasquet but this looks a step too far against Andrey Rublev, who has a point to prove after some recent stuttering. Rublev beat Djere in straight sets on clay at the Bastad Open last month and a on a hardcourt that suits him better the Russian can be expected to take this in three.
