THE PREDICTION
26-year-old Katerina Siniakova is coming in hot from yet another title-winning campaign in Women’s Doubles alongside friend and compatriot Barbora Krejcikova at Indian Wells. Siniakova now owns 21 WTA titles in Doubles, her 15th with Krejcikova, and recently she has also been enjoying her solo career on tour with a remarkable victory over Elena Rybakina at the Slovenia Open late last season seeing her lift a third WTA title on her own. The world number 46 beat Jule Niemeier handily at Indian Wells before a tight three-set defeat to Beatriz Haddad-Maia in the second round that suggests she should have too much right now for home hopeful Claire Liu. World number 59 Liu had the misfortune of meeting Iga Swiatek in the second round of Indian Wells last time out, taking just one game in a hammering, but she did well to beat lucky loser Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova before that. There is little in the 22-year-old recent results to suggest an upset here but backing Siniakova to win outright looks sensible here given a tight turnaround from success at Indian Wells.
