THE PREDICTION

Former world number one Karolina Pliskova edge out Magda Linette in a thriller on Tuesday, beating the Pole 10-8 in a deciding tiebreak before a frosty handshake at the net. The 30-year-old has struggled for much of this season but she finally burst into form at the Canada Masters earlier this month with a run to the semi-finals via victories over Amanda Anisimova and Maria Sakkari. 24-year-old Marie Bouzkova will be a tough test in this third meeting with her fellow Czech. The pair share a 1-1 head-to-head record after Bouzkova beat Pliskova in straight sets at the Madrid Open back in May in form that should see her break the top 40 for a first time after overcoming Linda Noskova, an even younger Czech prospect at 1 years old, in three sets on Tuesday. Bouzkova enjoyed a huge run to the quarter-finals if Wimbledon last month and if there were ranking points available there she would be a top 30 player by now. The 24-year-old should be treated like it by Pliskova and with three sets pretty likely here the suitably cautious move is backing the elder Czech to win at least a set.
