THE PREDICTION
18-year-old Coco Gauff will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 12th if she matches Daria Kasatkina’s run at the German Open and so far the teenager has been vastly impressive. Gauff is yet to drop a set after a dominative display over Xinyu Wang on Thursday and a strong opener against Ann Li, which is all the more inspiring after losing her first Grand Slam final at Roland-Garros to Iga Swiatek last time out. Former world number one Karolina Pliskova looks set to be a serious challenge here, though, after performing well under-par for the majority of the 2022 season so far. The 30-year-old has beaten two very tough foes this week in Kaia Kanepi and, most recently, Bianca Andreescu to win back-to-back matches for only the second time this year and she finished runner-up to Ash Barty at Wimbledon last season on a surface that clearly suits her world-class serve.
Pliskova won the only previous match against Gauff at last season’s Madrid Open but the teenager is improving all the time. Heart says back Gauff to win outright here whilst head says take the American to win at least a set as the likelier of two very capable victors.
