This is a really intriguing round of 16 clash between Indian wildcard Karman Thandi, who upset Chloe Paquet in three sets on Monday in front of home fans, and former world number five Eugenie Bouchard on her return to tour after shoulder surgery. 24-year-old Thandi grabbed her first tour win since 2018 and that should give the home fans more incentive to back her against a former star player here but 28-year-old Bouchard will be feeling a boost in self-belief too after claiming her first win in 18 months. The Canadian was a Wimbledon finalist in 2014 as well as a semi-finalist at both the Australian Open and Roland-Garros and it will be fascinating to see how far she can push her game after so long away from the sport. This match is more about mentality than talent, especially for home hopeful Thandi who will have the vast majority of support. Back the wildcard to win at least a set here and leave the victor up to chance with Bouchard having to play twice in quick succession for the first time since early 2021.
