World number 26 Karen Khachanov received a bye to the round of 16 at the Serbia Open as the third seed this week and then a walkover to the quarter-finals after Roman Safiullin pulled out of the tournament. 25-year-old Khachanov is probably the best on clay of the four top Russians on the ATP tour and he should be able to make the most of his so-far charmed week in Belgrade. World number 110 Thiago Monteiro is a solid opponent on this surface, though, with two straight-set victories under his belt so far this week over Joao Sousa and Filip Krajinovic. The Brazilian could be too hot to handle for Khachanov in their early exchanges with four matches in his legs from the qualifiers through to the quarter-finals and that makes taking Khachanov to win outright the sensible call here. A set went both ways in their only previous meeting at Wimbledon in 2017, where Khachanov won in four sets.
