World number 18 Karen Khachanov received a bye to the round of 16 at the European Open after recently improving his ranking with an incredible run to the semi-finals of the US Open. The 26-year-old reached the quarter-finals of the Astana Open last time out before losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic, suggesting he remains in excellent shape ahead of this likely thriller against Sebastian Korda. World number 36 Korda beat Marcos Giron in three sets on Wednesday for an impressive steadier after finishing runner-up to Andrey Rublev at the Gijon Open on Sunday. The 22-year-old beat the likes of Andy Murray and Roberto Bautista Agut last week in a welcome return to form but he may struggle to overcome a confident Khachanov here.
