World number 69 Tereza Martincova could be a challenging opener for Kanepi after the Czech took Anett Kontaveit to three sets at the Cincinnati Open last week and she looked in decent shape at the Granby Open before a loss to Diane Parry in the round of 16. However, the 27-year-old has never made it past the first round at the US Open, whilst Kanepi has won in the first round in each of her last 10 appearances here.
