World number 145 grabbed a great victory over Xinyu Wang on Tuesday, taking out the rising Chinese prospect in straight sets. The Swiss lost to Leolia Jeanjean in qualifying this week but she grabbed her second chance as lucky loser with both hands in the first round and that kind of second wind is always a tough force to stop. World number 54 Nuria Parrizas-Diaz is the eighth seed in Palermo but she survived an early test with a comeback victory over Asia Muhammad. The 31-year-old beat Grabher in straight sets in the quarter-finals of a Challenger event in Valencia just over a month ago and backing her to win outright here seems a reasonable enough risk on the back of that. Caution would be understandable here, though, given Grabher’s nothing-to-lose status and taking Parrizas-Diaz to win at least a set would be more suitable for an accumulator.
