World number six Carlos Alcaraz became the first ever player to beat Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in successive matches on clay in his stunning run to the Madrid Open title two weeks ago, dismissing world number three Alexander Zverev in the final. The 19-year-old is riding a 10-match winning streak after winning the ATP 500 Barcelona Open prior to that for two of his now four ATP titles on clay after claiming his first at the Umag Open last season and his second at the Rio Open earlier this year. Alcaraz claimed his first Masters title at the Miami Open in early April, with his four titles this season taking him to third in the ATP Finals qualification race behind Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
28-year-old Juan Ignacio Londero set a career-high ATP world ranking of 50th back in 2019 in what proved to be his best season on tour by some margin. The Argentine won the Cordoba Open on home soil that season before later producing a stunning run to the round of 16, beating two top 40 players en-route. However, the current world number 141 has drawn perhaps the shortest straw in the tournament here and it is hard to see Alcaraz dropping a set to the lucky loser. Back the Spaniard to win in three.
